George Saman: The Spirit of the Galilee
Born in the Galilean Arab village of Rameh, George Saman is one of the premiere Israeli-Arab musicians. Schooled in classical Arabic Music, he has taught music for many years creating many youth bands and ensembles. Perhaps his greatest gift, is George's knowledge of the folklore of the music of the Middle East including Egyptian, Iraqi, and Lebanese traditions and compositions.
George teamed up with the late Jewish poet and ballad singer Drora Habkin and toured the US under the sponsorship of the Bronfman Foundation. George is one of the most sought-after performers in Israel, performing and recording with Ehud Banai, Sheva, Shotei Ha'Nevuah and Machina. George has also performed internationally with Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Yair Dalal, and Ara Dinkjian, founder of the band "Night Ark."
George often combines Arabic and Hebrew languages into his performances. George is the founder and co-producer of the album "The Spirit of the Galilee," embodying his beliefs of co-existence through music.
